Work and employment of foreign nationals in Serbia

A growing number of foreign nationals come to Serbia for employment, while domestic companies increasingly hire workers from abroad. Although the procedure for obtaining a residence and work permit has been simplified in recent years, conducting it successfully still requires a good knowledge of the regulations, properly prepared documentation and timely communication with the competent institutions.

The Mihajlović Visa Center provides complete administrative and legal support both to foreign nationals who wish to work in Serbia and to employers who hire foreign workers.

Our aim is not merely for the application to be filed, but for it to be properly prepared from the outset, so as to reduce the likelihood of additional requests, unnecessary waiting and complications during the procedure.

Who is this service intended for?

We assist:

  • foreign nationals who wish to take up employment in Serbia
  • domestic companies that employ foreign workers
  • international companies relocating employees to Serbia
  • entrepreneurs and directors of foreign companies planning to work or do business in Serbia
  • specialists coming for a long-term assignment

Whether you are coming to Serbia for the first time or are already here and wish to regulate your status, we will help you choose the right legal basis and carry out the procedure correctly.

What does the procedure look like?

We analyse every case individually, but in the vast majority of cases the procedure runs through the following steps:

  1. 1Step 1Case analysis and determination of the legal basis
  2. 2Step 2Checking that the statutory requirements are met
  3. 3Step 3Preparation of the complete documentation
  4. 4Step 4Filing the application with the competent authorities
  5. 5Step 5Monitoring the procedure and communication with the institutions
  6. 6Step 6Responding to any requests for additional documents
  7. 7Step 7The decision and the next steps after the permit has been issued

We are at the client's disposal at every step and provide support until the procedure is complete.

How can we help?

Our support may include:

  • analysing your specific case
  • assessing whether the statutory requirements are met
  • preparing the complete documentation
  • completing the required forms
  • communication with the competent authorities
  • monitoring the status of the case
  • responses to requests for additional documents
  • legal advice for employers and foreign nationals

Where necessary we also work with employers in order to eliminate in advance any shortcomings that could slow down the procedure.

What is the single permit for residence and work?

The single permit allows a foreign national to regulate both the right to reside and the right to work in the Republic of Serbia through a single procedure.

Although the procedure is administratively simpler than it used to be, every situation has its own particularities. The form of engagement, the type of work, the status of the employer and other factors can affect the course of the procedure and the documentation required. That is why it is important to assess properly, before the application is filed, which option is most suitable for the individual client.

What we pay particular attention to

Our experience shows that problems rarely arise from one major omission. Far more often the cause lies in small inconsistencies in the documentation or an incorrectly chosen legal basis. That is why we pay particular attention to:

  • choosing the right basis for residence and work
  • the consistency of the information in the documentation
  • analysing the contractual relationship between employer and employee
  • identifying potential problems in good time
  • preparing additional evidence when we assess that it may be needed

Our aim is not merely for the application to be filed, but for it to be well prepared.

More than administrative assistance

Unlike most agencies that provide administrative support only, the Mihajlović Visa Center is backed by an attorney admitted in the Republic of Serbia.

This means that, where the circumstances require it, we can also provide full legal support, including:

  • legal analysis of more complex cases
  • communication with the competent authorities
  • representation in administrative and court proceedings
  • legal assistance in the event of disputes or other issues that may arise during or after the regulation of residence status

This way the client receives both administrative and legal support in one place.
